Wilkinson Sword Award

The Wilkinson Sword is an award presented at the International trial to a member of that Country who has made an outstanding contribution to the Society, sheepdogs and trialling over the years. The Wilkinson Sword was first awarded in 1980.

It was announced at the Directors' meeting in January 2019 that the Wilkinson Sword will be awarded posthumously to past National President Robert McInally.

Scottish National President Ian Brownlie said: "With well over 50 years of involvement with ISDS dogs and trials, Robert was a tireless and selfless worker, organising numerous trials throughout Lanarkshire, raising thousands of pounds for various charities that were close to his heart, including the Society".

"Serving as a Director of the Society for 35 years, including his term as National President, he was always willing to help in whatever capacity he could and always in a warm and cheery manner".

Robert, who died last year, was well-known in sheepdog circles, but he was also a respected breeder of Ayrshire cattle, as well as Texel and Charollais sheep.

He was chairman of Lanarkshire Ayrshire Cattle Society and only started showing his Charollais sheep at the Royal Highland Show when he was 70.

The Wilkinson Sword will be presented to Robert's widow, Isobel McInally, and she will be accompanied by their daughter Margaret Kennedy.
