Competitors qualify for the International by qualifying their dogs for their country's National. The four National trials are held late July to late August. The top 150 sheepdogs from each country run in their National over three days, with two judges picking the top fifteen to go forward and represent their country at the International in September. This leaves the top 60 dogs from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales competing in the International. This prestigious event has been held almost every year since 1906.
